Default Sigma 18-125 HSM OS vs Sigma 17-70 DC Macro

Can someone please help!I am considering buying either the Sigma 18-125 HSM OS or the Sigma 17-70 F2.8-4.5 DC Macro lens!I just cant seem to make up my mind!I know the Sigma 17-70 gets rave reviews due to its sharpness vs money value enc.But I realy like the OS and the range of the 18-125.Though it gets mixed reviews.

Im looking for a good walkaround lens and have narrowed myself down to these 2!I can get the 17-70 for R500 cheaper!Yes Im buying brand new.lPlease help me decide!!!!!!!Wil the 18-125 suffice through abit of editing or will the 17-70 make me much happier?

But what do u guys/girls think?

Have owned both, the 17-70 very sharp and with macro facilty great lense for wedding style shoots, f2.8 at widest for easy indoor shots groups etc. with macro for those closeup of the flowers etc. the 18-125 os and even 18-200 OS is great for a all rounder holiday lens. wide with a bot more telephoto with OS for shots in windy to still conditions, from car and other. With the 17-70 you would still need to pack something longer because the tele is limited.

Cyklon would I see the difference between these 2lenses image quality imediatly?I do like the 17-70's image quality! From the reviews I have seen the 18-125 has slightly more subdued colour, contrast. So if u would have to buy again which would u choose? And is the OS absolutely needed?Yes I already have a Sigma 70-300 APO lens.

Seeing that you have a lens to cover the longer focal range I would say get the 17-70mm. The semi macro function would also be a help- the 18-125 doesn't have it.

I agree I would go with 17-70 if the image quality is you primary factor also the macro is a bonys and the faster glass at the wide end versus the OS which is actually on that lens a nice to have and wont compensate for bad technique.

Hi, go with the 17 - 70 as its a better, sharper lens and the other lens is not that sharp as it has more zoom in one lens, more elements of glass = fuzzier shots.

Hi Guys!I settled on the 17-70!I bought it yesterday!WOW Im impressed! The 17-70 is an extremely sharp lens!Alot of people on other forums also said its autofucus is loud. Not to me.Its definately softer than the kit lens and my 70-300 APO.It has very soft autofocus.I got mine for R4500 brand new from a shop in Pretoria.

Im knocked over with this lens's sharpness.Guys its great! Its worlds better than the kit lens.I always wondered why everyone wants beter lenses. Now I know why.

Hi there, Neil. My apologies for going off-topic. I am currently in search of a replacement for a DSLR that was stolen. A colleague recommended the 760D to me, but I am not finding it in kit form with lenses, such as those in which the 750D appears. Could you perhaps point me in the right direction, please? Orms has links to such a kit, with an 18-135mm IS Canon lens, but the link is broken, and I haven't been able to track down a kit containing the 760D on the ODP website yet.

    Thanks in advance!

    Regards,

Eugene, looks like ODP only have 750D's. Not sure what the status of the 760 is...
