Re: Possible Tripod head for a monopod

I use a monopod head as you linked to.

But I almost always put the other end of thr monopod into a belt pouch, rather than on the ground, which would be impossible without the head.

    If you want...

  5. Re: Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary vs Nikon 200-500

Take your kit to the shop, take a few pics with your lens, strap on the 200-500 and test it.

Preferably, use a tripod and manual focus through zoomed-in live view for at least a couple with each...

    Re: Choice of Camera bodies

Never been to either place, but if it were me I would leave the 24-105 and take both bodies.

Simply because cameras do fail once in a while...

With that combination, the gap in focal lengths is...

    Re: Route through Namibia

Frank, I have only been to the middle and very southern edge of Namibia.

Our route was JHB to Windhoek via the Trans Kalahari Highway, from there straight to Okaukeujo, then to Palmwag, from there...

    Re: Wide-Angled Lens for Nikon

How wide, and for what purpose? And what's the budget?

    There are many options!

Somebody was robbed a couple of months ago. Not sure what has happened since then.
  11. Re: 70-200 nikon/ tamron or 300 2.8(new one)

I think the 400 f4 PF is a brilliant travelling lens, but I doubt it has any significant advantages in this application over the existing 200-500?

    Re: Nikon EN-EL15 charger

Gerhard, if you want to drop by, we can see if one of my batteries works in your camera?
    I am in Kempton Park.

Battery cannot be charged through the USB cable.

    Re: Nikon EN-EL15 charger

Gerhard, I have a Hanel universal charger for Nikon. This handles the EN-EL15 and also has the advantage that it can charge from 12 or 220V. If I remember correctly, it was about R450?

Six pages in and I still can't find it.

    Can you post a link?
  15. Re: 70-200 nikon/ tamron or 300 2.8(new one)

I have seen them going second-hand for about R4k for virtually brand new lenses (although that was 2 years ago). They were at that stage a glut on the market, because people were buying the kit with...
  16. Re: 70-200 nikon/ tamron or 300 2.8(new one)

If that's what you want, rather look at a second-hand 24-120 f4. They are dirt cheap because it is the kit lens for some of the full-frame cameras.

The gap between 120 and 200 can easily be...

  18. Re: 70-200 nikon/ tamron or 300 2.8(new one)

What Elsa said, except that the 300 f2.8 is one of the very best primes, and will outperform the 200-500 by a very long way in bad light and in terms of isolating your subject.

    300 f4 is a nice...

Re: FX vs DX .... battle of the BOKEH

    That is quite a difference!

Did you possibly extend the test to see what f-stop you need to close the 300 to to get around the same background detail?

    Nikon EL-EN15 batteries

I am looking for a dead or nearly dead EN-EL15 battery, as used in Nikon D7x00, D6x0, D750, D8x0 and D500 cameras.

    Re: advice on lenses

I don't own any of the mentioned lenses, but would like to chip in anyway.

  23. Re: Literoom Classic makes photos dull after loading
